The state of Michigan has found a method that it believes will reduce drunk driving and the related fatalities. The program, using $10,000 from the Department of Transportation, calls for the implementation of 400 talking urinal cakes to fight drunk driving – talking urinal cakes that chat with you BEFORE you get behind the wheel!
Urinal Cakes As A Possible Drunk Driving Solution
It’s certainly not the type of object that one would associate with preventing drunk driving.For those of you (about 50% of the population), who don’t know what a urinal cake is, let me explain. It’s a substance that’s white, the size of a hockey puck, and is placed in a urinal for disinfecting purposes. How it works, nobody knows, but you find it in the bathrooms of some public facilities including baseball and football stadiums.
Michigan Money Funding This Automobile Accident Deterrent
In Michigan, the money was used to buy “talking” urinal cakes. One of the messages, spoken by a female voice, says “Listen up. That’s right! I’m talking to you. Had a few drinks? Maybe a few too many? Then do yourself and everyone else a favor. Call a sober friend or a cab. Oh, and don’t forget. Wash your hands.” I do have a few thoughts regarding this program. First, even if you were not drinking, after you heard a urinal talking to you, you might think you had a few drinks. Also, if you’re really plastered, you might not think that a talking urinal was that unusual.
Second, when you think about it, it’s really not that bad an idea. If just one fatal drunk driving accident could be avoided because someone did take the advice of a talking urinal cake, then the $10,000 tax money would be worth it.
